Today, the first prototype for Sky Die was due. We had several goals for it:
- All four characters with no abilities and just their main falling sprite
- A finished factory stage (traps work, background done, walls can be simple still)
- A working gameplay loop
- Completely navigable menus with a controller
- Music:
- Menu track
- Factory track
- SFX:
- Hovering
- Select (button)
- Select (character)
- Select (stage)
- Different flavors of the same sound, each matching an environment
- Back
- Screen change
- Start game (from title)
- Start match
We were able to get most of these in the prototype. Some of the missed ones included all four characters (missing one character asset), the factory stage being “finished” (missing a trap asset), and some sound effects.
I’m really proud of the class’ progress so far (even if it included me and a couple others making some last minute changes before class). Right now, the game can mostly be played- choose a character, load in to the factory stage, and attempt to survive (but you can’t die yet, so this one doesn’t really count). Each of the other stages build off this skeleton, so it is really seeming like my dream of getting this on Steam could be a reality.
The class gets to take a break from the project over spring break (I probably won’t). I think this will be great for morale. I also gave the programming/design team a pizza party in order to reward them for their hard work. This also doubled as a great time to put together a couple pieces of the game before the prototype.
